Deborah Goldreyer and Bart Hamlin helped us transform our confused, colonial house into a fabulous, extremely attractive, contemporary home. They were incredibly insightful, helpful, creative and appropriately directive throughout the entire process. It was a real pleasure to work with both. Not only were we very pleased with the architectural designs, but also with their recommendations and guidance in selecting a general contractor, and their management of the process from design through completion of construction. Before we liked living in our house, now we absolutely LOVE it. Also, the custom dining room table Deborah designed has just arrived and it is fantastic! We've already referred friends and will continue to recommend Hamlin Goldreyer Architects in the future.

We used Deborah and Bart for a whole-house renovation project that ran from mid-2008 until early 2009. Our home was mid-century built in a traditional style but after the project we ended with a thoroughly modern, open-concept design.
Although perhaps slightly out of their comfort zone, Deborah and Bart's insights and extensive knowledge of architecture and design resulted in a truly spectacular result; our "dream home" in Old Greenwich, CT. From layout, to lighting to precisely detailed finishes, their work was superior. Both followed the project closely from start to finish and were very hands-on with the contractor.
They receive my highest recommendation and rating.

We hired HGA to design a major million+ dollar renovation of our brick colonial. The house was built in 1927 and hadn't been updated since the 1960's and thus needed attention in every room. We wanted to finish our basement, re-panel our library, demolish and rebuild from scratch our family room, and gut renovate the entire third floor into an office and guest suite. And we wanted to live in the house the entire time with our small children!! No small order. We interviewed three different architectural firms and settled on Deborah and Bart as the best fit for our project. They were locally based and had substantial experience in renovating large homes. From the beginning, we were impressed that they listened closely to what our ideas were and spend considerable time understanding how we envisioned living in the rooms to be addressed. They didn't try to force their ideas on us, but used our early discussions to develop schematic drawings with numerous options. Through an iterative process I can only describe as "fun", we brainstormed and red-penciled drawings over and over until we had it just right. Then HGA developed detailed architectural plans and bidding specs to put out to general contractors. They helped us interview and choose our contractor. They shepherded our applications through Village approval boards. The construction drawings were incredibly detailed with individual pages showing demolition plans, lighting, HVAC, millwork, structural support, on and on. Our mahogany paneled library was the piece de resistance. Every elevation was developed and three different cabinetmakers were asked to bid that work separately. We have been told by numerous guests that this is the most beautiful room in any house in Scarsdale. Throughout the entire year of work, Bart and Deb would visit the site regularly to ensure the contractors were indeed building to the plan and to the bid we approved. I can't tell you how much we valued this experienced set of eyes on the contractors and tradesmen, who often try to take short cuts to save time or increase their profits. We highly recommend HGA, and believe they are worth every penny we paid them.

We hired Hamlin-Goldreyer Architects to do a major kitchen renovation and to reconfigure an awkward bathroom. Deborah has an impeccable eye for detail and managed both jobs so well that we never felt one bit of stress. Bart handled all things engineering and permit-related, which was a huge relief. Their drawings were so comprehensive that there were no surprise costs and both jobs stayed within our budgetted lines.
Five years later, we have to say that there is absolutely nothing that we would change about either our kitchen or bathroom. They listened to our needs and created the most beautiful and functional spaces.
Thank you Bart and Deborah! You are top notch both as people and professionals!

We had a wonderful experience working with Hamlin Goldreyer Architects. Our 1920’s house needed some serious changes to make it the house of our dreams. Somehow, they managed to give us everything we wanted and still make the house feel like it was all built in the 20’s.
We had previously worked with a different architect who proposed a design that was not acceptable to us. Deborah and Bart worked hard to understand our vision and created an inventive, beautiful solution. They actually published an article about the design process which you can read on their website.
In addition to their design skills, they were incredibly attentive during construction. After digging started, they realized that all the stones being removed matched the existing chimney. They quickly canceled the masonry order and we used the excavated stones for all the new work. We saved money and felt greener, too!
We highly recommend Hamlin Goldreyer Architects. They are talented, professional and personable. A wonderful combination. Five stars for them!

This is a very professional, husband-wife team that provides outstanding design work, project management and a high level of personalized service. Whether your project is one room, a whole house renovation, or new construction, the time and attention to detail is the same. Hamlin-Goldreyer designs with a sensitivity to individual taste, lifestyle and budget, with an outcome that is a reflection of the clients' vision. I used them for four projects that ranged from one room, to a small addition, to a large addition and a whole house renovation.
I highly recommend a consultation with this couple, if you are considering hiring an architect.

I am a General Contractor who has had the pleasure of working with HGA on several high end custom homes in lower Westchester County, New York. The refreshing experience I encounter on each project is bullet pointed below.
1. The integration of both the Contractor's and Architect's value engineering before the plans are fully developed ensures that their final plans are in line with the initial approved budget.
2. The quantity of work changes on their projects are minimal due to the level of detail outlined in all their documentation. Their plans and specifications are detailed in such a way that the true scope of the project is documented in a clear and professional manner, enabling me to construct my project in an efficient and timely manner.
3. The quantity and quality of their presence during the construction assembly sequencing is unparalleled; they are engaged throughout the process.
4. From the moment I see a preliminary plan, through issue of a certificate of occupancy and any warranty work required, the owners best interests are always foremost in the architect services.
5. In my 29 years of being a General Contractor, I have worked with and built over 100 top end projects with numerous architects. The experience is very different with HGA - For example, the quality level of plans (fully drafted), and specifications (truly worked out not just boiler plated). The quality level of service at bidding process (architect schedules a meeting to review the final plans sheet by sheet so that any and all questions are answered), value engineering (before and during the plans design phase), and the day in and day out services are exemplary.
6. Overall, if you are in the market to hire an Architect, and you are looking for a full service architectural firm that is professional with great designs, look no further.
We did an extensive renovation on our house and Hamlin Goldreyer designed the whole project (including a conversion of a part of our garage to a mudroom and the addition to a room which was combined to make a kitchen / family room space). We had a great experience with Bart and Deborah. Bart made a great presentation to the Building Review Board of our town to get us a variance on our addition and all of the paperwork-end of the renovation went smoothly. Deborah worked more on the design end and was very prompt and exacting with her work. She worked very well with our contractors (who they found) and our project ran on time and on budget with no major problems.
They are a very easy firm to work with and I would not hesitate to recommend or use on my next project.
When it comes to hiring an architect it is critical that the professional be able to listen and inform, and be creative, while at the same time appreciate the owner's financial considerations. These architects do all of that and are just amazing, able to create new functional spaces that mesh with the flow of the rest of the house, and working well with the GC to insure timely completion per the plans that have been meticulously drawn by them. Their attitude is positive and calming, especially when the homeowner is nervous about demotion and dirt, etc, and they make sure that the prep work and cleanup is performed A1.
I can't say enough positive things about them, truly.

We have been admirers of Hamlin Goldreyer Architect's work for years, in homes we visited, and from the portfolio on their website. They bring a unique perspective and fabulous taste and style to every project. When we sought to determine the feasibility of adding an addition and a pool to our uniquely shaped property in our highly regulated village we turned to Deborah and Bart. It was HGA's end product that my husband and I had been drawn to, but what we discovered through our project is their deep knowledge and understanding of our village's complex rules and regulations that must be addressed even before a hole can be dug. HGA's ability to advise us through the process of navigating the permit / variance/approval process is unparalleled. Their advocacy and contacts make them valuable in ways you don't realize when you have your eye on the finished product (you should also use them for interior decorating). These are architects whose years of experience inform their understanding of what can and cannot be done in a particular town, and then advocate their clients' interests using their influence, goodwill and reputation. This can save needless expense in the long run. We realize now this added value should always be considered in selecting an architect. Finally a few words about their drawings; something else you cannot readily see when reviewing their completed projects. Their work is so thorough, detailed, every perspective considered, every contingency accounted for. These are architects who get you from idea to breaking ground and then finished product with the most pleasant experience and the knowledge that you didn't make any costly mistakes.
