A New Garage

to Match an Old Home

This is not one of our biggest projects - but it might have the best story behind it!  

 

The callers were in tears.  

 

We got the call late one afternoon after a very severe storm came blowing through Scarsdale, NY.   Not only had a huge tree just fallen on their garage but in that garage was the life's work of the owner's deceased brother - a reknowned modern painter.  The weather forecast was for another significant rain event in only 24 hours.  

 

"Was there anyhing we could do?"  

 

We volunteered to rescue the artwork before it would be destroyed.  We immediately called a reliable contractor - Rick Schappach from D&R Schappach LLC.  We had done several projects with him and we knew he could marshall the troops.

 

By 8:00 the next morning, a backhoe was in the driveway.  By 10:00 the roof had been lifted enough to get access.  With the backhoe holding up the fractured roof,  volunteers went into the ruined structure to rescue the pictures.  We formed a bucket brigade - or more accurately - a fine arts brigade.  One by one the pictures came out and they were all in one piece! By 11:00 the artwork was safely stored in the main house.  By 12:00 the soft top BMW was safety removed - and without a scratch!  By 2:00 the garage was only a heap of rubble.  And by 4:00 the skies opened and the rain came down.  A close call!

 

Then, we got to work to create a new, two car garage that looked like it belonged to the original 1920's Scarsdale home.
