Contemporary Interiors
The wall separating the living room and dining room was removed. Another wall next to the dining room was removed. Now the dining room has three windows to bring in lots of light and also has full exposure to the fireplace in the living room. Changes were also made to the west wall of the dining room to improve the new kitchen layout on the other side. The white walls and ceilings provide a light background for the dark, custom built-ins and furniture. Existing floors remain and are stained darker for heightened contrast. Moldings are replaced with subtle reveals at wall openings and along the floor. Similar reveals occur at the doors of the new built-ins.
The new family room replaces the old kitchen. A wall of new french doors brings in lots of light and also expands the space onto the deck. Concealed screens can be pulled out of the columns converting the new family room to a screened porch. The new family room also serves as a connector bewteen the stair hall and the new kitchen.
